Former Pastor Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Two Girls Under The Age Of 10
80-year-old Douglas Dale Whinery was actively involved at Olive Crest in Santa Ana, Foothill Family Church in Foothill Ranch, and Grace Church in Yorba Linda.
A former pastor and missionary has pleaded not guilty after being charged with sexually assaulting two young girls he met in Tustin, officials said.
80-year-old Douglas Dale Whinery of Tustin is charged with four felony counts of lewd acts upon a child under the age of 14, and two felony counts of oral copulation or sexual penetration with a child 10 years old or younger.
Whinery was a former pastor and missionary and was actively involved at Olive Crest in Santa Ana, Foothill Family Church in Foothill Ranch, and Grace Church in Yorba Linda.
Authorities said Whinery approached a 10-year-old girl and her 8-year-old family member in a Tustin park in 2011 and befriended their family. Prosecutors said that Whinery gave the family money to find a place to live, took the girls to school and church and had sleepovers at his home. It was at that time that he sexually assaulted the children, according to Tustin police.
If convicted, Whinery faces a maximum sentence of 100 years to life in state prison.
Anyone with additional information or who believes that they may have been a victim is encouraged to contact Supervising District Attorney Investigator Mark Gutierrez at (714) 347-8794.
