If the wide selection of restaurants at the University Center in Irvine weren’t to satisfy all of you UC Irvine Anteaters, the adjacent Campus Plaza and The Bluffs shopping centers are also getting beefed up with new restaurants.

After adding Hen House Grill and Vitality Bowls to its roster, the shopping center on Campus Dr. and California Ave. is further expanding its selection of dining establishments.

San Francisco-based Asian Box will be sharing the old Koba Tofu Grill space with The Habit Burger Grill, the burger chain out of Santa Barbara that keeps expanding through SoCal.

Asian Box is essentially “the Asian Chipotle.” You choose a base and a protein, which is then topped off with garnishes and sauces. For Asian Box, this will be their first location in Orange County and their second in Southern California, with the other location being in Los Angeles. So expect the grand opening to be a big deal for Orange County foodies.

The new Habit Burger will be the chain’s third location in Irvine. But it will face some stiff competition in the area, as University Center is home to In-N-Out Burger, as well as its corporate headquarters, and Eureka, which offers full table service. May the best burger win.

For those UCI students with a car who like to venture away from campus whenever possible, a new option is springing up a mile away from campus.

TLT Food will be opening a new location at The Bluffs Shopping Center on Bison and MacArthur in Newport Beach. TLT will be replacing Mozambique Peri Peri, which was a fast casual version of the Laguna Beach favorite.

TLT Food is a brick-and-mortar version of The Lime Truck, which services modern American cuisine. The Lime Truck was previously owned and operated by Jason Quinn of Playground fame and won Food Network’s Great Food Truck Race.
